History
Did you know? Our pub is placed in the bottom two floors of the Jubilee Wing of Nottingham’s previous General Hospital – this hospital was replaced by what is now the Queen’s Medical Centre. The old hospital was opened in 1781 with our building following in 1898 which was opened to mark Queen Victoria of the time’s Diamond (60th) Jubilee. It cost £29,820 at the time to build – which is somewhere around £3.2m nowadays! Some of the area has changed but we are lucky enough to still remain in the beautiful old wards which our floors used to be – equally the rest of the old main hospital is still intact and is great to see before or after visiting the Castle. We have all sorts of history dotted around the pub, which you’ll see as you walk in and around the space. Why not take a walk around the old hospital grounds, which is all open and free to access, before or after you visit us? Rumour has it, our pub is haunted by friendly spirits—ask our staff for each of their stories!
